WWPA Well Represented in Academic Honors

All 14 teams were represented in the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches annual All-Academic Team selections as 72 players were honored for their academic achievements in the 2008 season. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, UC San Diego, Occidental and Santa Clara were all honored for team achievement, all earning a team GPA over a 3.0. LMU Defeats Navy to Take Third at NCAAs

Loyola Marymount (21-10) used a run of 10 consecutive goals encompassing a stretch of 15:07 over the first through third periods to take third place at the 2008 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship with an 11-4 victory over the U.S. Naval Academy (20-11) at Stanford's Avery Aquatic Center.

LMU Claims Fifth Seed at NCAA Championship

Almost 24 hours to the minute after winning their seventh Western Water Polo Association Championship and with it the automatic bid to the 2009 National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship, the LMU women's water polo team earned the No. 5 seed and will face Hawaii in the opening round of the tournament on Friday, May 8 at Eppley Recreation Center on the campus of the University of Maryland. UC Santa Cruz Place Third at D-III Championships

UC Santa Cruz defeated Occidental 5-4 to take third place at the 2009 National Collegiate III Championship at Cal Lutheran on May 3. Cal State East Bay defeated Washington & Jefferson, 12-5, to take fifth. Annie Keating and Heather Stewart from UCSC were named first-team All-Tournament.


LMU Defeats Santa Clara, 8-4, to Take Title

Playing its best top to bottom team effort of the season, the 11th-ranked LMU women's water polo team brought the Western Water Polo Association title back to Los Angeles thanks to an 8-4 win over host Santa Clara in the title game of the WWPA Touranment at Sullivan Aquatic Center on the Santa Clara campus April 26.
